Ghaziabad: The government's efforts to promote industries are facing a major setback in the Tronica City area of Loni. Around 3,000 sectors in the region are suffering due to power cuts. Daily average power cuts lasting between four to six hours have led to a 30% drop in production. With restrictions on running diesel generators, industries are slowing down, resulting in losses amounting to crores of rupees every day.
Tronica City, located near Delhi, was developed as an industrial area two decades ago. Even though there are more industries, facilities remain incompletely better. As a result, 3,000 industries are bearing the brunt. The biggest problem is the old electrical system. Even a slight breeze or rainfall causes power outages for hours. Overloaded substations and transformers cannot handle the industrial load. According to industrial associations, Tronica City Ghaziabad has 11 industrial sectors. Power is supplied from two major power centres in Pavi and Mandola.
The most significant issue stems from repeated faults in the underground power line laid from Mandola to Tronica City. The line is frequently damaged during the construction of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. Just three days ago, frustrated entrepreneurs staged a protest at the local power station due to power cuts. Industries are being forced to halt production repeatedly due to power outages, causing a significant drop in production rates. Machines stop when electricity is unavailable, leaving workers idle, and making it difficult to meet production targets.
24-Hour Power Supply Could Eliminate the Need for Generators
Because of increased pollution in Delhi-NCR, an order to run diesel generators (DG sets) went into effect last year. This has doubled the challenges for industries in Tronica City. Worn-out wires, electrical poles, and three overloaded 33kV substations cause frequent faults. As soon as the power supply stops, production halts in the industries as well. Entrepreneurial organizations point out that business owners are not in favour of running DG sets in the first place. Using any type of generator adds a financial burden on industries. If industries receive 24-hour electricity, there would be no need for generators.
Only One Fault Locator in the District
According to the latest news Entrepreneurs claim that daily faults lead to power outages in Tronica City, but it takes hours to locate the faults. Trans delhi signature City has only one fault locator. First, information is sent, and then a team arrives. It takes two to three hours to do everything. After that, it takes additional time to locate and repair the fault. In such disorganization, running industries has become quite challenging.
Statement
Tronics City is experiencing power outage difficulties. This issue is creating serious challenges for the industries here, negatively impacting their production, profits, and employment. It's estimated that industrial production has decreased by up to 30%. The government must resolve this problem as soon as possible.Â
— Amit Bansal, Vice Chairman, Indian Industries Association Ghaziabad
Most industries in Tronica City relocated from Delhi. Even after two decades, entrepreneurs here are still struggling to get basic facilities like roads and electricity. Power cuts are causing financial losses to industries. If the situation continues, entrepreneurs will have to consider moving their businesses elsewhere.
